Tuesdays
Starting @ 6:00 PM
effective October 14th, 2009: Meet at the parking area above the Old Howard Johnson's on Rt. 250. Normal ride will be from there to Moorman's River Overlook on the Skyline Drive & back (about 27 or 28 miles). At least 3 of our regular riders have Shenandoah National Park passes and each pass will get up to 4 riders onto the Drive so we should be fine with the rangers on duty. This was decided by UNANIMOUS vote on the 13th of October.
WHY? Far less traffic, great workout (more uphill in the first half and downhill on the return), almost guaranteed to see wildlife, and a beautiful view of the lights in the valley on the return ride. Recommended you have a flashing red rear light as a minimum and some form of white light on the front. But several of the riders have great lighting systems so you'll be okay even if you don't have a headlight yet. Come give this a try! You'll enjoy it. Suitable for riders of all levels since you can turn back early if you choose! (Ride leaders Craig Bennett/Harry Colman/or whoever shows up!) Dress Warmly, it gets COOOOL after dark!

Note: Here is absolute proof from November 5th that we are still riding. Things started out cold/dark/windy but it was a beautiful ride for Joey, David (pictured) and Harry. We saw countless deer, several foxes (4-legged kind), a family of racoons, a humongous bunny rabbit, and a large owl which swooped across in our headlights.
Come join us! The more that ride, the less crazy we seem to feel!
